Start a Chapter

You can start a chapter of Kids Fight Climate Change to establish a group of caring and informed youth in your community, whether it be in your school, your neighborhood, or your city. We're so excited you're ready to start a chapter. You're helping connect with minds across the world and spread climate education.

You can skip this information and head straight to the form here.

You can choose how much you want Kids Fight Climate Change to be involved. We can provide you with non-cash resources, including digital resources like web hosting, and less tangible resources like strategies on how to improve your Chapter and other coaching and training opportunities. Kids Fight Climate Change will provide you with educational resources that you can use in your Chapter, and you can always request that we create more! You can also choose to have meetings with our Leadership Council to help grow your Chapter and gain invaluable advice.

Local Community Chapters

What is a Local Chapter?

Local Chapters are the backbone of the climate movement: you work directly with people to create meaningful change in your community — whether that's your village, city, state, region, or even country! We believe that for change to happen, we need powerful action in a local context. Engaging face-to-face instead of only online is incredibly important to building a global grassroots movement.

What do Local Chapters do?

Local Chapters have a wide range of flexibility. In general, you spread climate education and activism in your community. But local Chapters focus on whatever is most important in each community. Some examples of activities that local Chapters could conduct include:

  • Engaging with local groups to start climate education programs

  • Starting a climate change rally in your area

  • Working with schools and teachers to have climate education in local schools

  • And so much more!

What do I Need to Get Started?

  1. To apply for a local Chapter, you only need a bit of information:

  2. What scale (community, city, state, or national) that you plan to operate at (note that your chapter can only be national if it is outside of the United States)

  3. A general idea of how your chapter will be governed,

  4. A group name (see below for some tips),

  5. Information for an alternate contact (in case you are away and we need to contact your chapter), and

  6. A general idea of what types of activities you will conduct (you don't have to know this exactly yet, but a general idea goes a long way).

How do I Choose a Group Name?

Group names do not have to include "Kids Fight Climate Change" but certainly can! Including our name in your name can help with your recognition. We would also appreciate it if you include our name, as it helps us grow our organization! However, if you opt to choose your own name, it should be climate change-themed. We also recommend that it includes something about your location.

School Chapter

What is a School Chapter?

School Chapters are exactly as they sound: a type of chapter which is a club or similar organization within your school! School Chapters are so important because you are engaging with your peers. Kids Fight Climate Change is founded on this principle of youth teaching youth.

What do School Chapters do?

School Chapters generally engage other students through educational and activist programs. Many school Chapters are founded because they want to improve awareness and action in their school. That's why school Chapters focus on whatever is most important in each school. Some examples of activities that school Chapters could conduct include:

  • Conducting regular sessions where you teach your peers about climate change and climate activism

  • Working with teachers to create environmental programming, such as an Earth Day or Climate Week school event

  • Organizing with other climate organizations in your area to participate in climate direct action (such as protests)

What do I Need to Get Started?

To apply for a school Chapter, you only need a bit of information:

  1. A group name (see below for some tips),

  2. A teacher or other adult advisor (if you are a teacher applying on behalf of students, you don't need this), and

  3. A general idea of what types of activities you will conduct (you don't have to know this exactly yet, but a general idea goes a long way).

Remember that school Chapters have to follow the rules of your school, so you have to follow the policies for creating a school club/organization as well.
