About the event
The following description was provided by CRETF.
Bill S.278A/A.1559A — the most comprehensive climate education bill ever proposed in New York State — was co-drafted by an intergenerational committee made up of high school students, teachers, college professors, and education professionals, in partnership with Senator Andrew Gounardes and his legislative team. Senator Gounardes has introduced the bill in the Senate, and JoAnne Simon introduced the bill in the Assembly.
An intergenerational CRETF-led contingent is traveling to Albany on three Tuesdays (January 23, January 30, February 6) to meet with elected officials, to lobby for passage of the bill. A 4th trip on March 27 may also be added.
Charter buses will leave at 6:30AM each of the days from the NY Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street, (off of Central Park West) in Manhattan, and will return by approximately 8:00PM. The bus will not wait for latecomers.
Please only sign up if you are sure of your commitment. If you don't show up, you are taking a seat away from someone else.
PLEASE NOTE: Minor students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or other adult chaperone, will be required to sign a permission form, and may need a letter to be excused from school.
To prepare for the lobby days, we're hosting two pre-lobby-day logistical meetings for participants (note Zoom links below):
Disclaimer: Kids Fight Climate Change does not engage in legislative lobbying, and this will not participate directly with this event. We encourage you to reach out to CRETF for more information.
